As when setting sail, a new beginning is also a goodbye; to the things that were before, and that might have continued. We grieve the versions of ourselves who were never permitted to exist when we choose a path that will change us. Mercifully, we can relax into the knowledge that the choice was never really ours, but that of the prevailing wind of the day, and her whims.
